History

Our mission is to foster the art of dance in a nurturing, enriching, and pre-professional environment that serves two important goals:

  1. To foster the development of the dancer through proper technique
  2. To develop the dancer as a complete artist, from the youngest to the most advanced dancer.

Located in historic downtown Aiken, the Crosby-Miller School of Dance has been an Aiken tradition for over 50 years. First founded by Carl Crosby in 1960, the school has the distinction of being the first school of dance in Aiken. Mr. Crosby later founded the Aiken Civic Ballet in 1971. The Crosby tradition continues today with Director Diane Toole Miller, a former Crosby student and Aiken Civic Ballet member.

Many of our dancers have been selected to attend the prestigious programs throughout the state and in the world including the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia, Bolshoi Summer Dance Program in New York, Nashville Ballet, Ballet Tennessee Summer Intensive, South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts, and University of South Carolina Summer Dance Conservatory.

Our experienced professional staff is committed to teaching with care given to the development of self- confidence, imagination, and creativity.
