The Crosby-Miller Competition Team was formed in 2010 to give dancers a chance to broaden their performing opportunities in a supportive, fun environment. We understand that dance is an art and that dance competitions are a place for our dancers to gain exposure to, and develop friendly relationships with, dancers and choreographers. Our Competition Team dancers perform in the community and our recitals. They also compete at various conventions where master classes are taught by professional choreographers.
The Aiken Civic Ballet Company is for the most serious and committed ballet dancers. Dancers take three 1½ hour technique classes a week, in addition to rehearsing for the annual performance of the Nutcracker in December, a spring performance in March, the school recital in May, and Hopeland Gardens on Memorial Day each year. Master classes with various professionals are scheduled throughout the year, as well as other performing opportunities. This past year ACBC dancers were selected by audition to perform at the USC Dance Conservatory Showcase at the Kroger Center for the Arts in Columbia, SC in October. For ages 13 and up, on pointe and by audition and approval by the Director only.
Costumes are ordered in December and must be paid in full by November 1st. Names of seamstresses are available if your child’s costume needs any alterations. We do our very best to size your child accurately. You will receive a notice of costume prices in your dancer’s class.
Price ranges for costumes are as follows:
The Competition Team dancers are accepted by audition only. During each audition, dancers will be led through a warm-up, across the floor and center floor technique then taught a short combination in which dancers will be divided into small groups to perform. Our judges are looking for strength and flexibility, strong dance technique and showmanship while demonstrating the choreography given. Please remember, this audition is for a competitive team. Therefore, we expect a certain skill level for each age group.
There is a $10 audition fee which must be paid prior to the audition class. Please be aware, each dancer will audition within their age group. However, if a dancer qualifies, we will determine which team the dancer will be placed in. Information including costs and entry fees etc. will be provided in advance of each event.
Our recital is held each year two evenings in May at the Etherredge Center Theater on the campus of the University of South Carolina at Aiken.
Each family receives 4 tickets each night their child/children dance. Some dancers may dance both nights.
All tuition and costume fees must be paid in order to receive your tickets.
The Aiken Civic Ballet Junior Company is a training ground for the more serious ballet dancer. Dancers take 2 required ballet technique classes a week, have rehearsals on scheduled weekends and also perform with the Aiken Civic Ballet at their yearly outdoor performance in Hopeland Gardens on Memorial Day. Master classes with various professionals are scheduled throughout the year. For ages 11 and up, on pointe and by audition only.
